We use the adage “write the story that you would want to read.”

We recommend the following as a part of your story and creation process:

  • Provide background and context - on the geography, on the subject matter, on policy related to your subject, and any other relevant information that will assist the reader
  • Disambiguate the acronyms and jargon by providing just-in-time definitions and even a glossary if required
  • Describe your data sources and process at a high level (but not in pedantic detail)
  • Pay attention to bias
  • Test your content for readability - we would recommend tools that use the Flesch–Kincaid readability score, such as this one. At this time we would recommend a target score of 50-60, and a grade level of 10-12.
