Hi, I'm TellsDataStories! I'm a 30-something who loves data!
I'm a part of Team CarbondaleDataJournalism! Collectively Team CarbondaleDataJournalism is writing articles about Carbondale and the surrounding area. Our priorities include:
- agriculture and land usage
- property sales and the transitioning of ownership in our community
- healthcare and our response to the opioid epidemic
On a personal level, I went to school for journalism, however I got exposed to the data journalism side of journalism. Nothing fancy, no ML/AI data sciency stuff but enough data wrangling experience that I don't back down from any dataset.
My toolbox:
- QGIS for spatial analysis
- Alteryx - I use it in my job and that carries over to my Tyche work - a great tool for building data flows/workflows
- Google sheets
- Python - trying to get better at this, focusing on NumPy now
I'm a superhero at FOILs & FOIAs, however they're known in your parts. Ask me questions!
On my data storytelling wishlist...
- Finance Decoders for the 6 counties that surround my community
- getting better suboxone delivery data from the state so that we can storytell its availability
- creating a Sankey diagram for my city's budget
