We are creating and expanding a set of documents that provide guidance on key data storytelling points. This guidance will provide direction on the data storytelling process, the authoring and publishing of data stories.

We will be creating and expanding our conventions and guidance documents based on community feedback. Here are some examples of conventions and guidance that we want to create based on collaboration within the community:

  • What happens when an article gets updated the following year with new data?
  • What do we do if two people want to write about the same geography, same subject, same input data with different points of view?
  • What sections do we add to the basic framework of a data story? Do we add sections such as "External Links", "References", "Further Reading", etc?
  • How do we embrace non-English language usage - community member-created content, documentation and guidance, and in our marketing outreach?
  • How do we best support non-USA and -Canadian data storytelling, especially in locales with different sensibilities and concerns related to public data and data storytelling?
