Talk:WhereToStart
Welcome to Where to Start
The purpose of this page is to answer any questions that community members have about where to start. This could include questions about:
- formulating questions that you are trying to answer
- finding datasets that might be useful
- identifying if there are any related news stories that can provide a starting point
All questions are valued here! For anyone replying with assistance, remember that our goal is to assist and help. KarlLDS (talk) 15:42, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
Agriculture-related stories
One of the fun things about Tyche is that there is a seemingly endless supply of subjects / topics that we can research. We had not thought about any agriculture-related stories until a friend brought it up the other day.
To get some discussion going, let's brainstorm about agriculture as a topic - what questions would be interesting to ask (and answer) and what datasets (either ag-specific or multi-purpose) could inform local data news with an ag angle? KarlLDS (talk) 15:45, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- As an example, I was looking at the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and was reviewing the county level estimates. Has anyone been able to get value from the county level data to inform local data news research? KarlLDS (talk) 16:03, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
SeeClickFix
SeeClickFix is a commercial system for gathering citizen-reported issues (potholes, grafitti, whatever). Is anyone in a community that uses SCF and who is interested in exploring this data and what we can find out? Lmk! KarlLDS (talk) 15:59, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
